Dear 50,000+ visitors to Under the Hood, especially our hundreds of subscribers: thank you!
Dear leaders, who’ve honored us with your time and nuggets of wisdom, based on your many years of serving the Greater Good: thank you!
Dear fellow writers, who’ve devoted so much time and effort to this endeavor: thank you!
Dear narrators, researchers, administrators, and everyone else who’s come along for the ride: thank you!
The Under the Hood team has learned a lot over the past year. Such as: which stories and themes resonate, and which don’t; the challenge of coordinating interviews with really busy people; the time it takes to write and revise, as well as locate and curate the best photos from the ancient days of leather-bound albums; and the ins and outs of Substack’s technical peculiarities.
These insights and challenges, coupled with an external development, have led us to throttle back. Now that the actors’ strike is over, the series being developed based on my book, Tiger in the Sea, seems back on-track…and Cary Granat, who bought the film rights, has retained my wife and me as co-producers. (Not that he needs us! He also bought the rights to The Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Ray…among his 50+ film projects.)
Going forward, Under the Hood hopes to feature one great leader a quarter, starting with our upcoming profiles of the dedicated public servant Anthony Williams, “one of the best mayors in American history”, and the incredible Christina Puchalski, MD, “one of healthcare’s most insightful, compassionate and impactful leaders.” We also hope to sprinkle in shorter pieces from time-to-time. However, our publishing schedule will likely be even more erratic than it’s been in recent months. Sorry about that!
As a result of our limitations and lessons learned, we’ve decided to stop offering paid subscriptions. All content will now be free: past/archived pieces, and all future stuff. Substack will automatically refund all subscribers for the unused portion of their paid subscriptions.
Everyone at Under the Hood wishes you and yours peace—especially, but also prosperity during the holidays and in the New Year.
Dr. Blumenthal -- Thank YOU!
