Very Interesting. Ther is a Harriet Tubman Bridge on Hwy 17 that crosses the Combahee River. My wife Reneau's grandfather Charles Mitchell Lowther Sr., was the superintendent of the construction company who built Highway 17 from Savannah, Georgia to Charleston, SC. It was all built by hand labor assisted by mule teams and wagons. This was done during the 1920s. The family lived in tents and shacks as they moved along the construction. Charles Mitchell Lowther Jr. as a young boy would collect and haul water for the men and live stock.
Thank you, Heather!
Wow! As Carl Jung might say, "Talk about synchronicity!"
